Hiram – At the last meeting, Ed Frato-Sweeney noted that 2021 Commencement for Hiram College students will take place on May 15th. While only graduates will be allowed in Martin Field House for the ceremony, their families are invited to watch commencement via live stream on the football scoreboard at Charles A. Henry Field.

In his Police Department report, Chief Brian Gregory noted that Covid-19 vaccinations for his team began in early March. Chief Gregory noted that the Department still intends to hold the summer ‘Fishing with a Cop’ program at Camp Asbury, as well as the Car Show/Fundraiser for ‘Shop with a Cop’ event in August, as long it’s safe to proceed.

In his Fire Department report, Chief Bill Byers noted a few dispatch errors since the village switched service to Portage County. He shared that some minor errors occurred relating to mutual aid calls, but noted that due to different systems involved in the change, a slight learning curve was anticipated, as the county gets familiar with the area.

In Legislation, Council approved a resolution authorizing CT Consultants for construction engineering services, as well as a resolution authorizing a contract with Core & Main LP for the water meter replacement project. In addition, council approved a contract with Grade Line, Inc. for the Garfield Road water main replacement project. Lastly, council approved a resolution in opposition to House Bill 157, which seeks to amend the law regarding withholding municipal earned income tax for those working virtually and/or at home.

Lastly, spring cleanup will take place in the village on Saturday May 8th from 7 am until noon. It’s noted that the Kimble Solid Waste truck will pass by each residence one time only. If leaving large appliances, doors must be removed. Wooden furniture will be collected; upholstered couches and chairs infested with bed bugs need to be wrapped in plastic or they will be left at the curb. (Glass portions or windows need to be removed or taped for the safety of the workers and to minimize the chance for glass to spill out of the truck onto the roadway.)

Please note that chemicals, fuel, paint, batteries, tires, car parts, lawn mowers, metal, tree branches over 4’ in length, or railroad ties will not be accepted.

The next regularly scheduled meeting will take place online on Tuesday, April 13th at 7 pm. Visit hiramvillage.org for a link and instructions on how to attend.
