Hiram Twp. – At their December meeting, trustees announced that the sale of the Township Garage (11588 Ryder Road) had been finalized. The building was purchased by Jimyz Automotive from Streetsboro.

In public comment, Thrasher Road resident Andy Pfaff complimented the township road crew on their competence in keeping township roads in good repair and cleared during the winter months. He joked, “I try to catch the guys and give them coffee, but they go by too early.” Pfaff also inquired about zoning requirements and particulars relating to a neighboring property.

Zoning inspector Rich Gano informed Pfaff that if the issue(s) deals with an active zoning permit, Pfaff needs to contact the Zoning Board of Appeals. Pfaff was informed that the issue isn’t something that the trustees can address, at which time Pfaff inquired as to how a citizen can remedy such an issue. Trustees and Gano were unsure, but Gano assured Pfaff he would investigate through the County Prosecutor’s office and report his findings.

In other news, after some discussion, trustees agreed to pay a portion of the RCCA electric bill to cover the power consumed by the lights at the base of the township’s flagpole located nearby. It was determined that the lights would be installed in the spring. Trustee Jack Groselle asked Fiscal Officer Eric Hankinson to request that the RCCA issue a quarterly invoice to the township to cover the electric costs. In similar news, it was agreed that the portable toilet rented by the township and placed near the building would be removed after Christmas but returned by March 1st. In other news, Trustee Steve Pancost was asked to follow up with the county on the status of the Speed Study completed on Udall Road.

In his report, Tom Matota shared that the road crew is ready for winter storms. He noted that rust is an issue with water at the new building, with rusty ‘sludge’ clogging pipes. He’s working to remedy the situation. In related news, he asked Trustees to consider the purchase of a ‘hot box’ for road repair work in the new year.

The next regularly scheduled trustee meeting will take place on Tuesday, January 17th at the Township Complex at 6352 State Route 82.
