Garrettsville – Hiram Rotary Discuss Lighting of the Falls Project

731

The July 23, 2018 meeting of the Rotary Club of Garrettsville-Hiram met at Cal’s II, Sky Plaza, Garrettsville and entertained guest Christine Crane, who came to offer suggestions for landscaping the garden area that the club is attempting to establish near the Headwaters Trail at the trailhead. She pointed out that to be effective, planning was really necessary, with an over-all vision of what is desired, hummingbird/ butterfly attraction or any other purpose. She also presented the possibility of donation and/ or memorials to complete the desired effect.

In other business, president John Crawford read a letter going to the district outlining the recent activities of the local club, including the work on the trailhead, the Lighting the Falls project in the works, contributions of the InterAct club, the completion of the Garrettsville Recovery project, other activities around the community. He also included planning for work on updating the Boardwalk, with work contributions by members and InterAct kids. The grants committee for District 6630 and the lighting contractor for the Lighting the Falls (Edison Landscape & Deck Lighting)are also on the agenda. Suggestions were made for making more information available on the Trail and about the community, using up the remaining grant funds available.

Other discussion of the landscaping for the Trail included removal of the chain link fence, seeking donations of stones and plants, establishing a “photo op” location, moving the on-site sign and more information about the community.

The Reverse Raffle will be coming up on the first Wednesday in November. The committee is forming; the expedited format is working well, the same caterer is likely to be contracted, contact will be made with SugarBush Golf Club to finalize the arrangements. Friends of Rotary will be getting well-deserved recognition for their contributions.

Ted Lysiak will be speaking next week about the upcoming levy request. The incoming foreign exchange student information has been somewhat delayed but arrangements continue.

Steak Fry on August 13.
