Dr. Jane Oyarzun, 84, of Garrettsville, Ohio, passed away peacefully at home on August 30th 2026. She was born on January 6th, 1942, in Portsmouth, New Hampshire.
She received her Bachelor of Arts from the University of New Hampshire in 1962 and received her PhD in Spanish Literature from the University of Illinois in 1970. Jane taught at various Universities: SUNY Brockport, NY, Clark University, MA and Hiram College, OH. Her home was in Garrettsville for more than thirty years, where she gathered friends from Hiram University and the community by sharing her home and generosity every January celebrating her Birthday.
Jane is survived by her sister, Joyce Sperry; brother, Jonathan Killam; niece, Katrin Killam; nephew, David Killam; great-niece, Mikayla Killam, and her Chilean family; stepson, Andres Oyarzun-Macchiavello; stepdaughter Maria Teresa Oyarzun-Macchiavello, and great-niece Francisca Oyarzun, and her daughters Magdalena, Elisa and Amalia.
