Every Wednesday, the Crestwood Community Center (CCC) is open at the Lodge at Buchert Park in Mantua with a full schedule of activities.
On May 13th, the day begins with a SAIL (Stay Active and Independent for Life) fitness & balance class, followed by lunch at noon. This day’s lunch will be provided by Boulder Crossing of Streetsboro and will include an herb planting activitiy as well. At 1 pm, Holly Stoneberg will present a History of the Headwaters Trail. On Thursday, May 14th, folks are invited to participate in a senior hike at Berlin Lake Trail (232 Kirkbride Road) at noon. This event isn’t sponsored by CCC, although many members enjoy hiking. To enjoy getting out in nature, participants should register in advance at www.portageparkdistrict.org for this slower-paced hike on smooth trails.
On Wednesday, May 20th, CCC visitors will enjoy SAIL Class at 11 am, followed by a free lunch sponsored by the Gardens of the Western Reserve. Those planning to attend are asked to RSVP. At 1pm, Lynn Vogel from Portage County Soil and Water District will share information on rain gardens and composting. The following week, on May 27th, after SAIL class, visitors are invited to bring their own lunch or a dish to share. CCC organizers Tracy and Rosemary will share photos of their recent adventures at 1 pm. Seniors are encouraged to meet at noon the following day, May 28th, at the Portage Hike & Bike Trail at the Franklin Connector. The hike will pass on smooth trails, allowing participants to chat and enjoy nature. Register at www.portageparkdistrict.org if you plan to attend.
Looking ahead, mark your calendar for Saturday, June 6th to attend the Triple Trail Fest. This annual event held in Mantua celebrates the three trails that pass through the historic Village: The Buckeye Trail, Cuyahoga Water Trail, and the Headwaters Trail. CCC will be hosting a booth with kids’ activities as well as a bake sale. CCC member Phyllis will bring her donkeys and cart for free donkey cart rides, as well. And on August 12th, CCC will change locations. Weekly meetings from that day forward will be held at the Crestwood Administration building (10880 John Edward Drive).
CCC is made possible through the generosity of the Hiram Community Trust, the Portage Foundation, Potato Stomp committee, Downtown Mantua Revitalization Committee, Mantua-Shalersville Chamber of Commerce, and Mantua Village. Join them each Wednesday in the Lodge at Buchert Park (4804 East High Street in Mantua). For more information, visit their Facebook page.
In addition, each Wednesday, the Portage County District Library (PCDL) Bookmobile stops at Buchert Park from 12:30 until 2:30, open to visitors of all ages.
