Brigadoon is a Smashing Success

1938

Garrettsville – This past weekend the cast and crew of Brigadoon’s hard work paid off,  as they did four nearly sold-out performances of the musical over the weekend. The musical was under the direction of Joe Gaither.

IMG_4241Last December, they held auditions for the musical and Megan Ryser landed the part of Fiona MacLaren, while Griffen Young landed the men’s leading role of Tommy Albright. Rounding out the cast was Kyle Lambert, as Jeff Douglas, Eric Splinter in the role of Archie Beaton, Luke Blohm as Harry Beaton, Christian Crawford as Mr. MacLaren, Shannon Enoch as Jean MacLaren, Lizzie Gerez as Meg Brochie, Dan Anders as Angus MacGuffie, Mark Butto as Charlie Dairymple, Phillip West as Stuart Dairymple, Mason Mayoros as Sandy Dean, Alex Synnestvedt as Maggie Anderson, Zach Sossa as Mr. Lundie, Evelyn West as Kate, Kaylee Martin as the fishmonger, Luke Blohm as Frank, Angelina Penna  as Jane Ashton and  numerous individuals playing the role of townsfolk. As soon as the students returned from winter break in January, the practices for the production began. The cast worked long and hard on lines, accents, songs and lots of dancing, all to bring the story to life.

The story takes place in an enchanted Scottish village that appears out of the mist for one day every hundred years. New Yorkers, Tommy Albright and Jeff Douglas stumble on the enchanted village when they get lost on a hunting expedition in the highlands of Scotland. The two soon discover the village they stumbled upon is called Brigadoon and has a secret miracle.

The production takes one through Jean and Charlie’s wedding, the love story of Tommy and Fiona and Jeff’s journey with a local who is determined to find the love of her life.  The cast drew the audience right in to Brigadoon by using, song, dance, laughter and yes, even tears, so much, that many left humming a tune from the production.
