Hiram – Hiram College head swimming and diving coach Jack Groselle added to his already impressive list of records by setting his second World Record of the year as part of U.S. Masters Swimming recently at the Milford Meltdown hosted by the Milford Athletic Club in Milford, Mich. on March 16.

Groselle competed in four short course events and posted a time of 2:06.13 in the 200-meter freestyle setting a FINA World Record in the event for the 60-64 age group.  He surpassed previous record holder, Larry Krauser, who set the mark in 2013 with a time of 2:07.96.  Groselle also just missed out on setting an additional world record in the 100-meter free with a time of 56.79 seconds, 16 one-hundredths of a second shy of the current record of 56.63 seconds.

Earlier this year, Groselle set his first world record of the season at the 27th Annual “Super” Swim Meet in Michigan competing in the short course 400-meter freestyle.

The meet was held on Sunday, Feb. 2 at Brighton High School in Brighton, Mich.  Groselle swam a time of 4:35.15, breaking the previous national and world record mark of 4:35.39 that was previously held by Jim McConica which he set on December 1, 2012.

“It was great to beat a record that a friend of mine held who is in the Swimming International Hall of Fame,” said Groselle.

In addition to setting the all-time mark in the 400-meter free, Groselle competed in two other events, the 100-meter freestyle and 100-meter individual medley, and was within a second of breaking the current world records in both events.

Groselle recently completed his 22nd season as head coach at his alma mater and has remained active in competitive swimming since his collegiate career had finished.  During that time, he has set over 30 world and national Master’s records.  Groselle is a 1976 graduate of Hiram where he was a standout collegiate swimmer.  He was the Division III National Champion in the 50-meter freestyle in 1976 and was a two-time All-American in addition to being an two-time All-Presidents’ Athletic Conference award winner and the PAC Most Valuable Swimmer (1976).  Groselle held as many as six school records during his collegiate days and currently still owns the school record in the 50-yard freestyle (21.20 seconds) which he set in 1975.

Groselle will next compete in the Canadian Nationals at the end of May and will seek a possible third world record time.
