Meet The Artists – Discover Nature-themed Acrylics and Photography at The West Woods

368

This late summer and early fall, spend some time in The West Woods Nature Center’s Oak Room exploring the emotionality and splendor of Nature captured in the artwork and photography of featured artists Sharon Fedor and Maria Perme.

The shows open with a free, open-to-the-public Meet the Artists reception on Friday, August 7, from 6 to 8 p.m., and will remain on display through October 31.

Art has always brought her escapism and peace, but Sharon Fedor credits her work as a forensic artist as the catalyst for her niche as an artist. “Although quite different than drawing from a person’s memory,” she wrote, “I believe this is where my love of portraits began.”

Fedor later found her passion for the beautiful colors of acrylic painting in an open studio class, inspiring what she called her “building process,” where she blends the “perfect colors” to create her paintings. “I especially enjoy painting subjects that spark an emotion or memory,” she wrote. “Creating art with my brushes and a vision brings me great joy. I hope that my work brings reflection, happiness and a sense of beauty to the viewer.”

Maria Perme also began her artistic journey at a young age as a self-taught photographer. Now a member of the Cleveland Photographic Society, she has an impressive portfolio that includes weddings and portraits as well as Nature photography. Some of these works can be found today in notable collections and institutions, such as The Glick Center at MetroHealth Hospital and the Rhodes State Office Tower in Columbus.

Perme’s photographs are heavily influenced by her background as a wellness practitioner, which gives her “a natural eye for beauty – in landscapes, in people, and in the serendipitous moments that define our lives.” She described her photographs as “characterized by a sense of calm and stillness that invites the viewer to pause.” Her work aims to tell a story with each image, inspired by personal understanding and the wonder of Nature.

The West Woods Nature Center is open daily from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at 9465 Kinsman Road (Route 87). However, please note that the building will be closed September 7 and October 12 during this show. Come be inspired by all the beauty and tranquility Nature has to offer with a visit to this new art show in the park!
