Try Your Hand At Nature Journaling

352

Looking for a creative way to slow down and connect with Nature? Geauga Park District’s monthly Nature Journaling series combines observation, writing, sketching and optional photography to help participants explore the outdoors with fresh eyes.

Registration is currently open for “Life in a Riffle,” offered Sunday and Monday, June 14 and 15, at Sunnybrook Preserve. Upcoming sessions also include “Cicadas” (July 12 and 13), “Page Layouts” (August 9 and 10) and “Kayak Experience” (September 13 and 14), with registration opening June 20 for Geauga County residents and June 27 for out-of-county participants, both at 10 a.m. And a special Nature Journaling for Families program for families with children ages 9 and up will be offered August 20 at Claridon Woodlands.

Registration will be required for all by phone at 440-286-9516. First-time participants receive a journal, pen and supplies for $20 (Geauga residents) or $24 (out-of-county). Participants who have already registered during the current calendar year attend free, while returning participants who’ve not yet participated within the calendar year pay $10 (residents) or $12 (non-residents) for additional supplies.

Naturalist Renell Roebuck began Nature Journaling six years ago as a way to blend art with her curiosity about the natural world. “I choose topics that I’d like to broaden my knowledge in so that I can pass along my curiosity to my participants,” she said.

Beginners are always welcome. Feel free to call or email Renell ahead of time with questions at 440-226-2894 or rroebuck@geaugaparkdistrict.org.
