The Garrettsville Family YMCA recently hosted its 1st Annual Shamrock Smash Pickleball Tournament, drawing an enthusiastic group of participants for a day of friendly competition and festive fun.

Players were randomly assigned to teams, creating a lively and inclusive atmosphere as competitors took to the courts. The event combined spirited gameplay with a lighthearted celebration, making it enjoyable for both participants and spectators.

Taking home first place honors was “Team Leprechauns,” featuring Greg McDivitt and Tammi Peters. Finishing in second place was “Team 4 Leaf Clovers,” made up of Andrew Taylor and Lauraine VanOss. Winners received local gift cards along with YMCA merchandise.

The tournament also highlighted the growing popularity of pickleball in the community. Those interested in learning the sport can take advantage of beginner play sessions offered at the YMCA on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 10:30 a.m. to noon. The facility remains open to the public for those looking to get involved.

Organizers have already announced plans for the next tournament, scheduled for June 27, which will be held in partnership with Garrettsville Summerfest.

Event organizers expressed their appreciation to all who participated, noting that the strong turnout and community support helped make the inaugural tournament a success.
