VP Silver Creek Garden Club
There are many wonderful clubs in our Village that bring people with shared interests together. Each is a mix of learning something new, with a bit of socializing sprinkled into the meetings. One you perhaps haven’t heard much about is The Silver Creek Garden Club.
The club was established as an informal group in 1933-34 and is now in its 92nd year. Gardening has evolved greatly over the years, as more of us beautify our landscapes and grow our own food. Some things have remained the same, most importantly, how the Club cares for making our community attractive, from filling the downtown planters with gorgeous combinations to taking care of the garden at the library and planting trees to mark special occasions in the Village. The Silver Creek Garden Club holds an annual plant sale during the Garage Sale weekend to get new gardeners started and to help experienced ones expand their landscapes.
For our monthly programs, we visit local gardens and farms, take advantage of speakers from the Ohio Extension services, and connect programs via Zoom with places like the Japanese Garden in Portland, Oregon, and the Royal Botanical Garden in Canada to learn about healing plants.
We are constantly seeking new members and welcome people to join the Club. The monthly meetings typically feature an hour-long program, followed by lunch with members. Annual dues are $15.00. Guests are always welcome to check out our programs for FREE. Our next program will be on Wednesday, February 25th, at 10:30 in the Community Room at the Library. The featured speaker will discuss “How to Plan a Cutting Flower Garden”. On March 25th, we’ll be working with The Bay Window to create Easter Floral arrangements.
