Whitney Podboy and her husband Derek opened Cellar Door Coffee in 2016 in the Old Mill at the intersection of Water, Main, and Center streets in Garrettsville. And since opening the doors, the coffee house has become a community gathering spot for more than just good coffee. Due to customer feedback, they expanded their menu in 2018 to provide breakfast and lunch items as well, making Cellar Door the spot for friends to meet, a quiet space to work, and even a venue for Bible studies, community meetings, wedding or baby showers, and other private events. It’s not surprising that they’ll bring their hospitality and warmth to another space in the historic village.

On Saturday, February 21st, Podboy’s Uptown– a bistro-styled diner – will host their grand opening to continue their tradition of providing Garrettsville with delicious food and drinks in a comfortable, family-friendly setting.

And while the Podboys have a proven history of service in Garrettsville since 2016, the family’s hospitality history began back in the 1940s. It started at Podboy’s Tip Toe Inn (1949) and Podboy’s Lounge (1960) in Cleveland. They continued with Podboy’s Lounge in Kirtland, and Podboy’s Golden Finger in Parkman, both in 1968. According to Whitney, it’s four generations, five locations, and one weird last name.

The menu at Podboy’s Uptown will include familiar favorites including scratch-made biscuits, Belgian waffles, eggs benedict. They’ll also include a variety of lunch fare, including smash burgers and fresh salads. Special dishes like the Buckeye Block pancakes – a favorite Cellar Door mocha in pancake form, will round out the offerings.

Last week, Podboy’s Uptown was in practice mode, taking limited reservations to help train their team and put the finishing touches on their space. and flow. Reviews from diners lucky enough to score a table have been wonderful.

Tinker posted about a visit on February 7th: “We went to Podboy’s for their soft opening the food was so good! The atmosphere is one of a kind. It’s so bright and inviting inside and even though the seating area isn’t that big it didn’t feel tight. The tall ceiling and big windows make it feel surprisingly spacious. This is such a great addition to Garrettsville. I hope to make memories eating here with my young family.”

Amanda, who visited that same day, shared, “…Great food that tastes fresh , super friendly staff, and the vibe felt like a true small-town favorite in the making! The prices were very reasonable, and nothing beats supporting a small business that clearly cares about what they’re serving and who they’re serving. We can’t wait to go back!”

Zachary, who visited the next day shared: We were very impressed! Great food, great service, and great atmosphere! Family friendly too!”  Another happy customer, Ashley posted after her visit on February 11th: “My sister and I ate here today on a whim, and we are so happy we did! The food was incredible. We had the best biscuits to start, and the service was also fantastic! Can’t wait to visit here more!”

But don’t just take their word for it – stop by and check it out for yourself! Podboys Uptown will celebrate their grand opening on Saturday, February 21st. You’ll find them at 8126 Main Street in Garrettsville.
