Edibles were what it was all about at the November 6 meeting of the Twentieth Century Club of Garrettsville. Linda Fitt was the hostess, assisted by Jane Hill.

Members were asked to respond to roll call with their favorite edible flowers, then the evening’s speaker, Angie Smithberger of Always in Bloom presented a bouquet of ideas and suggestions for plants to contribute in culinary, medicinal and other special areas of better living. Kombucha–often heard of but seldom tried–was described, explained and offered for sampling. Interesting what fermentation can do. Other plants and their uses also were on the table : Hibiscus, Yarrow, Parsley, Lavender, Mullein, Comfrey, Mint, Sage, Passionflower,Citronella, Geranium, Elderberry. Plants themselves were passed around for inspection and were discussed as they circulated. Grandmas were mentioned frequently as sources of health histories and recipes.

A donation to the NGCC was acknowledged; date and location for the Spring Party was announced. The Christmas Party will be on December 11, with Christmas cards to be exchanged and gifts of children’s socks and underwear to go to the local distribution.

Seasonal refreshments–think, cider & donut holes as well as fruit cup–were enjoyed by all.
