Told ya !

As soon as the Fourth of July is done, it’s the looonnnng slide into SCHOOL. Slide’s over now and here we are, back at it. But first…

Got my tricycle fixed. Thanks to all those who inquired and offered to attempt restoration of my mobility. The Fix-it Elf( no relation to the Tooth Fairy that I know of) showed up in the drive , with a toolbox, no less, applied a superior diagnostic approach, tightened this, pumped up those ( A “soft answer turneth away wrath “ but soft tires do nothing to aid in locomotion.), and it was pretty much pedalling proper from there on. Easy-peazy. I’m cruisin’. Now, of course, there appears to be some rain in the forecasts coming up, so I might not be out there (I’m often “out there” but we won’t go into that.) as much as I might have been but watch for the orange flag on the gentler slopes around town.

And I got in my traditional jaunt to the FAIR–the Lorain County Fair in Wellington, where about one third of the exhibitors could be related to me and at least two of the fairboard members are. Got to visit cattle, draft horses, goats (by special request), bunnies(more relatives),antique farm equipment(some of which I remember using) modern farm equipment (many pieces of which cost more than my house), a historical society that recognized some of my relatives and various commercial buildings offering everything from elk jerky to burial plots. Great time. Even got to indulge my craving for onion rings, which are about as scarce as hen’s teeth anyplace else but common as dirt on the fairgrounds–accompanied by fried veggies most of the time…and topped it all off with apple dumpling with ice cream. Calorie bonanza! AND, I brought home doughnuts (or donuts, if you like) made by the local band boosters, their special fund-raiser for the last forty-or-so years. Good stuff.

Waddled home after that.

Garfield retirees luncheon on Monday. G-Men got skunked last Friday. I think that it was the first double overtime I have ever seen…and I’ve been here awhile. Hope to scare up some new members for the Quiz Bowl team this year. Football game is on Thursday this week–some weird scheduling thing, apparently, but it will be back to Friday nights after that. The Marching Pride looked and sounded great, as usual; I have very seldom been in the press box doing the band show that I have not had the guest announcer tell me how good our show is; happened this time too (their band has 140 + performers).

So…. We’re off for another one. Hold onto your hats.
