It’s Chili Cook-Off Time!

Middlefield – Looking for an inexpensive outing to beat the winter shivers?  Middlefield Market’s annual Chili Cook-Off provides a day of warm entertainment to fit any budget! middlefield-chili-cookoffAdmission is free into the Pavilion where the doors open to the public at 11:30am Saturday, February 22, 2014.  Live musical entertainment will be performed by Soft Tones until the festivities are concluded at 4:00 pm.
Once inside, a chili sampler pack containing 8 cups, a spoon and a People’s Choice ballot can be had for a suggested donation of $3.00.  Patrons select samples from a wide spectrum of chilies including shredded beef, chicken, hot, mild, spicy and vegetarian.   The Farmers Grill will be open with full menu options including french fries and ice cream.

“This is a great family day,” explained Tina Mooney, who hosts the event with her husband, Tom.  “With free admission, it is inexpensive for families to spend the afternoon in a warm, friendly environment.  The musical entertainment is first rate!  “Many of our competitors are local business owners with give-aways, raffles and discount coupons at their booths.  Some will have examples of their wares for sale.”

More than 25 contestants will compete for the cash prizes of First Place, $150.00, and Second Place, $75.00, selected at 12:30 pm by a 3-judge panel.  The winner of the People’s Choice award, $100.00, will be announced at 3:30 pm after the patron ballots are counted.

If you think your chili has what it takes to compete let us know! There is a $35 registration fee to be entered, and you need to provide at least 4 gallons of chili. Businesses or individuals may compete. This is a great way to promote your business to area locals, you may pass out information, coupons, or give-aways.
