Over the past 63 years, Crestwood bands have performed in the Ohio Music Education Association events. With the concert bands at the core of the curriculum that began back in 1955, students also participate the Scarlet Guard Marching Band, Symphonic Band, Jazz Band, and a variety of student chamber ensembles. Building a solid foundation for high school bands begins through nurturing award-winning seventh and eighth grade bands.
And while student musicians work to hone their skills and perfect their moves on the field, the Crestwood Band Boosters work behind the scenes to help the student musicians shine.
The Band Boosters organize fundraisers like the recent Easter Basket raffle that was hosted in conjunction with Middlefield Bank and Advanced Rehab. According to Band Booster Heather Paisley, eight-year-old Kyleigh Sawyer was so certain her raffle ticket would be a winner, she asked her Grandma each week if the bank had called yet. She was over the moon to pick up her prize recently. Two additional baskets were claimed by adult winners who were happy to have been chosen (but probably not quite as certain as Kyleigh was as to their prize-winning status.) Basket raffles have been an ongoing fundraiser, with proceeds going into the Crestwood Bands General Fund to help purchase things like performance props, equipment, travel expenses for competitions, dry cleaning uniforms, and help finance Band Camp, and Drum Major Camp. Band Boosters also pack snacks and chaperon band members at competitions.
On Saturday, April 26th, Band Boosters will host a Night at the Races at Corners Catering and Event Center (11845 State Route 44). Tickets are available at a cost of $40 per adult (age 21+) and include dinner and two drink tickets. The event will feature 50/50 tickets, basket raffles, and a cash bar, with all proceeds supporting Crestwood Bands. And don’t forget to support the Band Boosters Snack Shack at every home football game.
