Windham – Folks flocked to the streets and braved the bitter cold Sunday night to watch the first Winter Lights Parade sponsored by Community in Action for Windham (CIAFW). The event was held in conjunction with the Windham Community Church Fellowship Tree Lighting in the gazebo on the township green.
Lights-parade-047The parade line-up began at Dollar General, stepped off at 5:30 p m and traveled down Community Drive to Center Street to Main Street, ending at the township green. The parade had lighted fire trucks, ambulances, floats, and of course, St. Nick. The event was a sight to behold.

Everyone was welcomed and Julie Kelly from Windham Nazarene Church sang “Bethlehem Morning” before Clare Alderman read a passage from Luke in the Bible.  The tree was illuminated to the oohs and ahhhs of all  while members from Hiram Student Choir (Music in Action) sang Christmas Carols.

Following Hiram College Student Choir, there was a brief sing-a-long, and then the winners from the parade were announced. First place went to The 8th Count Dance Studio with Santa coming out of the top of the Chimney along with the dancers dressed as presents. Second place went to a cart being pulled by a donkeys owned by the McCune Family and third place went to Troy Fire Department.   Following the announcement of the parade winners, merry-makers ventured into the town hall to warm-up with hot dogs, cookies and hot chocolate, while the youngsters visited with Santa.
