Cub Scout Pack 3269 has just earned its spot as the top dog – or should we say, top “Cub” – in the Great Trail Council- Crooked River District, sweeping the prestigious leadership awards with the precision of a well-tied square knot. The pack’s Cubmaster, Den Leader, and Committee Chair were all honored with the 2024 titles of Cubmaster of the Year, Den Leader of the Year, and Committee Chair of the Year, respectively. This achievement is nothing short of a “bear”-y big deal, highlighting the pack’s commitment to nurturing young scouts and fostering a vibrant, supportive environment for the next generation of leaders.
The awards were presented at the annual Crooked River awards banquet, where leaders from across the district gathered to celebrate the year’s “paw-sitive” achievements. Cubmaster Josh Taylor, who has been guiding Pack 3269 with the wisdom of an old oak tree for 4 years, was recognized for his unwavering dedication, innovative programming, and ability to inspire both scouts and fellow leaders. His leadership has not only kept the pack active and engaged but has also seen membership grow faster than a scout on a sugar rush. Impressively, this marks his second consecutive year as Cubmaster of the Year for the Crooked River District – talk about “knot” missing a beat!
Den Leader Scott Kuboff was also celebrated for his outstanding contributions. Known for his creativity and inclusive approach, he’s been tying the scouting program together like a pro – literally. Winning the Den Leader of the Year award for the second year in a row in the Crooked River District, he’s clearly got the magic touch when it comes to keeping a den engaged and entertained. Scott’s hands-on activities and commitment to instilling core scouting values have left a lasting impact, proving that he’s no stranger to a “campfire” of success.
Finally, the Crooked River District Committee Chair of the Year award went to Eagle Scout Andy Lumpkins, whose behind-the-scenes work has kept the pack running smoother than a Pinewood Derby car. From managing finances and logistics to also leading our 5th grade den, he’s the glue – or should we say, the duct tape – that holds the pack together. His leadership in outdoor cooking and overseeing pack operations has been critical to the seamless execution of Pack 3269’s programs, showing that he’s always prepared, no matter what scouting challenge comes their way.
The success of Pack 3269 is a source of immense pride for the Aurora community. Parents, scouts, and local leaders alike have praised the pack’s leadership team for their exceptional work.
“My son has transformed from a nervous child hiding under tables to an engaged and confident participant in every meeting, thanks to the incredible leadership and kindness of his den leader.” said parent Chelsea. She continues, “The supportive environment in Scouts has truly helped my son grow into the exceptional young man he is today.”
The awards also serve as an inspiration to other scouting groups in the area, showing what can be achieved through dedication, teamwork, and a commitment to the values of scouting. After all, when you put your heart into it, the sky’s the limit – or at least as high as a scout’s model rocket will soar after launch!
As Pack 3269 celebrates and is humbled by this unprecedented sweep of the top leadership awards, the future looks bright – brighter than a well-polished compass. Scott Kuboff has been elevated to Cubmaster and has already planned an exciting year ahead, with new programs, community service projects, and outdoor adventures on the horizon.
