Donald C. Duffield

Our dad and brother, Donald C. “Donnie” Duffield, peacefully entered into eternal rest on June 6, 2024. He was born in Gassaway, WV, on February 13, 1945, to Glen and Wanda (Mace) Duffield.

In 1953 he moved with his family to Ohio where he completed his education at James A. Garfield High School. Donnie was determined to leave this world on his own terms at home and his final wishes were granted. He now joins his heavenly family of parents, brother, Jim, sister, Betty, and many of his lifetime friends.

Donnie served his country as a U.S. Marine corporal during the Vietnam war. His principal line of work was in construction after which he managed Paul’s Feed Mill and Farmstead Supply.  He grew up on a farm and never lost his love for animals and field crops. Donnie enjoyed a good, cold beer and a warm country song. He loved trains, and as a boy he secretly imagined himself as a railroad engineer. Although Donnie never got to ride the railways, he did enjoy his fishing trips to Canada with his buddies.

Behind his sometimes gruff exterior was always a very kindhearted man.

In addition to Donna, he leaves behind three daughters: Dianne (Dave) Smith, Dana (Tom) Chapman, and Deidre (Shane) Fresch. The girls blessed him with eight grandchildren: Hunter and Kennedi Smith, Chase (Kelsey), Carter, and Camden Chapman, and Kya, Ketley, and Kolby Fresch. Also missing him will be brother, Charles (Elaine) Duffield, and sisters, Wilma Mitchell, Mary (Danny Bihari) Paul, and Darlene (Dennie Pochedly) Duffield.

A private inurnment will take place at Park Cemetery, where he will be given military honors. Our family will be forever grateful to Aunt Bunny for lovingly and patiently caring for Dad in his final years. Care for Donnie was entrusted to Mallory-DeHaven-Carlson Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 8382 Center St., Garrettsville, OH 44231. For online condolences, go to www.carlsonfuneralhomes.com.
