Terrance “Terry” James Sparks (nee Nedelka), age 75, passed away on May 24, 2024, with family by his side. He was born on December 12, 1948, and raised by his stepfather and mother, the late Frank and Elizabeth “Betty” Nedelka (nee Ceboll). Terry is survived by his beloved wife Suzanne Sparks (nee McLeod); cherished children Marlo (Kevin) Freedman and Morgan (Matthew) Thomas; dear grandchildren Haley and Jake Freedman and Jackson and Katie Thomas; beloved brother and father-figure Donald (Janeen) Sparks, treasured siblings Winifred (Jim) Lawrence and Frank Nedelka; and sisters-in-law Malvena McLeod and Jennifer (Keith) Hurlburt.
Terry is also preceded in death by his brother Cecil Nedelka.
Following graduation from Garfield High School, Terry enlisted in the United States Army in 1967, where he served with C Company, 6th Battalion, 31st Infantry during the Vietnam War. As an Army Specialist (Spec-4), he was awarded the Army Commendation Medal with “V” device for valor in May of 1968, when he moved through intense enemy gunfire to resupply fellow soldiers who had been cut off from ammunition supplies. Terry served his country with courage, honor, and distinction.
After completing his military service, Terry went on to earn his degree from the Tennessee Bible College. As a clergyman, Terry was instrumental in founding a church and grade school. He later moved into the private sector where he held various positions including the Regional Vice President of Circuit City. Terry was a die-hard Cleveland Sports fan; a loving husband, father, and brother; and a loyal friend to many.
The family would like to thank everyone who has been involved in Terry’s care. His tireless and devoted caregiver, Emerita Mendez, always brought a smile to his face with her cheerful spirit. Additionally, the staff at Cleveland Clinic Medina Hospital and Cleveland Clinic Hospice showed tremendous compassion and provided top notch care to Terry. Their support during his final days was a true Godsend for Terry and his family.

Terry’s family receive friends on Wednesday, May 29, 2024, at Waite and Son Funeral Home in Medina. A funeral service was held on Thursday, May 30, 2024.
