Hiram Village Plans Summer Event Series

1118

The Village of Hiram plans to help residents enjoy the summer months with a variety of events and activities hosted by the newly organized Recreation & Park Board. The first event took place on Friday, May 3rd at the Hiram College stadium.

That evening, the academy award nominated film ‘Barbie’ was screened on the stadium scoreboard. The event was free, although donations were accepted to benefit the Recreation & Park Board. Other events include a resurgence of Hiram’s Old-Fashioned 4th of July festivities, that will include Fireworks, a parade, family games, and more.

In other news, Village brush collection began on Friday, April 26th. Collection takes place on the last Friday of each month from April through September. For information on what can be left at the curb, or any other questions, call the Village Service Department at (330) 569-7802 Extension 223.

Don’t forget to mark your calendars for the Village’s Spring Clean-up taking place on Saturday, May 18th from 7 am until noon. Please note that the Kimble truck will pass by each residence only once, and items left after the truck has passed will be left at the curb. Bulk items including appliances and wooden furniture will be accepted. For more details and guidelines on what will be accepted, visit hiramvillage.org.

For items not accepted at the Spring Clean-Up, Portage County Recycling has opened a Center for Hard to Recycle Materials (CHaRM) facility. At this location (3588 Mogadore Road in Kent), county residents may drop off appliances, electronics, scrap tires, batteries, automotive waste, and more. Some fees may apply; for hours and details visit portagerecycles.com/charm-facility.

The next regularly scheduled Council meeting takes place on Tuesday, May 14th at 7 pm; residents are encouraged to attend.
