As of January 15, 2024, the position of secretary for the James A. Garfield Historical Society is open; volunteers should contact president Debbie Smith or attend the next meeting on February 15–that’s Presidents’ Day–or both.

Denise Ellerhorst, of the Time Capsule Event committee reported that one grant applied for was not received , but members suggested applying for a Hiram Community Grant, deadline approaching. Other items relating to this event included research on prices for time capsules, archival supplies, materials to be placed in the new capsule, specifics about the new monument, funds and their sources. John Zizka introduced a motion allowing the JAGHS to cover introductory expenses while activities are being planned–to be covered later by fund-raising. Shirley Cline made a donation of a historical plate.Members were invited to participate in IMCNEO meetings and seminars.

Christmas Walk is coming this year; some changes may be in store. Committee members are needed. Anyone interested in spreading their holiday spirit should sign up and be a part of the event; come to the next JAGHS meeting, February 15.
