From the celebrated stories by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, the Garrettsville Curtains Up Theatre presents “The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes!” Four captivating mysteries come to life on the stage this weekend in the Iva Walker Auditorium at James A. Garfield High School. The performance appeals to a wide range of audiences and is child-friendly. The director, Jackie Loreta-Rinearson, is ecstatic to be returning for her 17th year directing shows with Curtains Up and is overwhelmingly impressed with the cast’s coherence and hard work since November, when they began practicing. Mrs. Rinearson states that the material is very challenging, with lots of monologues, and has adored working with so many new and young faces.

The show was chosen by Stage Manager and Assistant Director Elisha Bly for her love of the characters and books. Elisha has been a part of Curtains Up for several years and has done phenomenal work as a stage manager for the past few shows.

The iconic trench coat-wearing and pipe-smoking detective first appeared in 1887 in one of Conan Doyle’s novels titled “A Study in Scarlet.” Accompanied by his sidekick Dr. Watson, the Holmes novels and short stories exploded with popularity in Britain. Drawing readers in with his uncanny ability to gather evidence based upon his honed skills of observation and deductive reasoning, Holmes has a lasting impact on today’s pop culture almost as strong as he did 130 years ago.

Performances of “The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes” are scheduled for January 19, 20, 26, 27 at 7 PM and January 21 at 1 PM. Tickets will be available for purchase at the door.
