Gene W. Brunn, 88, of Freedom Township, died Wednesday, November 8, 2023, at his residence at Vista Veranda in Ravenna, Ohio. He was born November 28, 1934, to the late Frederick (Guy) and Carolyn (nee Sprafka) Brunn of Freedom, Ohio.

A resident of Freedom Township for most of his life, he attended Freedom Township School and graduated from Garrettsville Village High School in 1953. A 1957 graduate of Hiram College, he was employed as an Ohio public school teacher for 30 years. He taught at East Claridon Township for 3 years before being employed by the James A. Garfield Local School District for 27 years, where he taught science and coached basketball and track at the middle school. He also was employed seasonally as a painter for Don Wolff Decorators. After retiring from teaching, he served on the James A. Garfield Local School District school board.

He was married to Sarah L. Post on July 28, 1957, and was a devoted husband for 55 years, until her passing in 2012. He was a life-long member of First Church of God in Ravenna, where he served as an adult Sunday school teacher, a visitor of shut-ins, and a member of various committees. He enjoyed boating, fishing, gardening, and playing church-league softball.

He is survived by sister Diane Dvorak of Fairport Harbor; sons, USAF Capt (Ret) Thomas (Rhonda) of Dayton, Steven (Jane) of Stow, Andrew (Melony) of Garrettsville, and Nathan (Ciarra) of Ravenna; twelve grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by sister Gloria and brothers Raymond, Jim, Mark, Daniel, and Gary.

Calling hours were held Wednesday, November 15, 2023, at Shorts Spicer Crislip Funeral Home, Ravenna Chapel, and Thursday, November 16, 2013. Service followed at the First Church of God in Ravenna, with Pastor Tod Huston officiating. Burial occured at Maple Grove Cemetery in Ravenna.
