Time Capsule Opening Scheduled for July 6, 2024

3506

On the evening of September 18, 1924, at 7 o’clock, the Historic Memorial Tablet and Time Capsule were presented to the citizens of Garrettsville. The Garrettsville Study Club placed the Memorial in front of what, at that time, was the Opera House, commemorating the heroic efforts of the forefathers of Garrettsville to establish a new home in the “Western Wilderness.”

For the past century, the Memorial has stood in the same location, now situated in front of the clock tower, serving as a constant reminder of the challenges faced by our early settlers.

Now, fast forward 99 years… Have you ever stood in front of the monument and wondered what’s inside the time capsule? Have you pondered, “Will I still be here in 2024?” Well, the time is nearly upon us! The James A. Garfield Historical Society has set a date for the opening of the time capsule. Mark your calendars for July 6, 2024, for the grand reveal!

During this event, we will unveil our roots, offering a glimpse of the present for the eyes of the future. Not only will we reveal the contents of the current time capsule, but we will also replace it with a new time capsule to be opened in 80 years, in the year 2104. This date coincides with the Tricentennial or the 300th-year celebration of the founding of Garrettsville. Stay tuned for more details to come.
