David Arnold Klock, born in Ravenna, Ohio, on May 5th, 1953, a lifelong Garrettsville resident and athlete, peacefully passed away in his sleep in his home on Monday, September 18, 2023, at the age of 70 years old. Dave, a 1971 graduate of James A. Garfield High School was the dedicated son of his parents, the late Donald G. Klock and Dorothy L. Klock.
He was a modest man with a kind heart, and was most proud of his family. Dave leaves behind his daughter and friend, Jennifer Klock, who he welcomed on May 7, 1972, and of whom he was most proud; his three beloved grandchildren, Dr. Jacob Klock, of Columbus, OH, Samantha Peska, of Garrettsville, OH, and Airman Bryce Peska, currently serving our country in the Airforce. Dave also leaves behind his brother, Daniel (Shirley) Klock of Marrietta, GA, his sister, Barb (Tom) Hardesty of Garrettsville, OH, and youngest brother, Brian (Mary) Klock, of Kannapolis, NC, as well as eight nieces and nephews.
Dave was a life-long athlete with many accomplishments. He was a running back and kicker for the football team and catcher for the baseball team at Garfield High School, where he earned All-State honors in both sports. Dave continues to hold records at JAG and was inducted into the James A. Garfield Hall of Fame for his athletics in 2008. One of the only, if not the only, player from JAG to run the ball for touchdowns and follow up with points earned for his field goal kicks. Following graduation, Dave followed in his father’s footsteps by working for the railroad. He worked for Erie Lackawanna, Conrail and Norfolk Southern for many years where he finally retired in 2013. Dave, an avid sports fan, was known for his humor, quick-wit and quiet nature. Dave also rooted for Ohio teams and as well as encouraging family athletes and all JAG teams through the years. Dave will be remembered for his enjoyment of the simple things in life, an ocean or lake breeze, a good joke, jogging around town, walking his granddogs, finding something interesting, leaving a little something for others to find, and most of all he enjoyed spending time reminiscing with family on a hot summer day. As Dave always said: “Did you get your lottery tickets for tonight??”
