Forestry Camp Scholarships awarded by Geauga SWCD

The Geauga Soil and Water Conservation District is proud to award partial scholarships to four Geauga County students for registration to the 2013 Ohio Forestry and Wildlife Conservation Camp, taking place June 9-14, at FFA Camp Muskingum in Carrollton, Ohio.  Paul Davis, Robert Deans Jr., Dominic DiRosa, and Thomas (Adam) George, all of Berkshire Junior/Senior High School in Burton, were awarded partial scholarships to join other high school campers from across the state to attend this unique and engaging camp promoting the wise management of Ohio’s forests and natural resources.

Submitting the scholarship application was just one part of the students’ efforts to attend camp.  Under the direction of their environmental science teacher, Cheri Goggin, the students have met additional requirements including applying for and receiving scholarships from a forestry foundation and contributing in-kind service work by volunteering at the Burton Sugar House.  Through these additional efforts, the students worked hard to earn their registration fees and to gain community contacts.

At Camp Muskingum they will participate in many classes including forest ecology, wildlife management, and forest products, plus activities like a team-building adventure course, a night hike, and a tree climbing program.  At the end of the camp, students will have a chance to earn college scholarship money through the final exam.  The Geauga SWCD Board of Supervisors and staff congratulate Adam, Dominic, Paul, and Rob and wish them a positive and rewarding camp experience.
