All-U-Can-Eat Spaghetti Dinner

The next Western Reserve Kiwanis All-U-Can-Eat Spaghetti Dinner will be Friday, Oct. 19th from 5-7pm in the Hiram College Kennedy Center.  Spaghetti with choice of meat or marinara sauce, salad, garlic bread, beverage, and ice cream, all for $ 6.00 for adults and children 8 and under FREE!  Carry-out available.  There will be a silent auction, as well as a 50/50 raffle.
Our co-host is Friends of the Garrettsville Library.

After Dark in the Park

The event is called “After Dark in the Park Haunted Hayride”. The dates are Oct. 19th, 20th, 26th and 27th from 7 P.M. to 12 A.M. The first hayride each day at 7 is non-scary so that the little kids can enjoy it without being scared by the actors. Admission is $8 per person and all the proceeds go to phase 2 of the Banks Park playground project. It’s held at the LAC ball fields on St. Rt. 82 in Leavittsburg/Braceville (right before St. Rt. 5, coming from Garrettsville/Windham area), Cash and Credit Cards are accepted.

3rd Annual Craft Show

Public Observing Night
Oct. 20
Stephens Memorial Observatory of Hiram College will host a public observing night from 8:00 to 10:00 PM seeking out gems of the Milky Way, such as the Ring Nebula – M57 and the Hercules star cluster M13. Viewers will also get a peek at another galaxy –Andromeda– through the impressive Cooley Telescope. The Observatory is located on Wakefield Road (Rt. 82) less than a quarter of a mile west of Route 700 in Hiram. Good sky conditions are critical to viewing; for updates and more information, see the observatory’s Web site: StephensObservatory.org or “@StephensObs” on Twitter. No reservations are required and there is no admission fee for observatory public nights. Cloudy skies at the starting time cancel the event and, in that case, the observatory will not open. There is no parking at the Observatory. Visitors may park on permissible side streets or in the nearby parking lot of Harrison’s Hideaway Convenience Store, 6821 Wakefield Road, a short distance east of the observatory.

One Room School Exhibit

The One Room School Exhibit in the Shalersville Historical Society Museum will be open on Oct. 20 from 4:30 until 6:30.  Along with the museum opening, the society will have a Spaghetti Dinner in the Town Hall from 4:30 until 7:00 pm.  A complete dinner with beverages and dessert will be furnished for donations of $8.00 Adult , $7.00 Seniors, $5.00 Kids 6-12 and 5 and under free.  Come one and all, see old friends and maybe make some new ones.

NUMC Swiss Steak Dinner

Fall is here, it’s time for Swiss Steak! The Nelson UMC will be hosting their famous Swiss steak dinner on Oct. 20. The dinner will be served at the Nelson Community House (handicap accessible) on Nelson Circle. Carry out is available. Dinner will be served from 4:30-7:00 pm. the price is $9 for adults and includes Swiss steak, mashed potatoes, green beans, coleslaw, rolls, dessert and beverage. Last one until spring!

9th Annual Apple Butter Fest

Apple Butter Fest will be held at 942 Gandview Rd in Lake Milton on Oct. 20, all day! There will be live praise music during the day, a bake sale with lots of apple products. Lunch is also available, including hot soup, sausage sandwiches, hot dogs, funnel cakes, plus hot & cold beverages. Apple butter will be for sale at $4 a pint, regular & sugar free. There will also be free flea market space for anyone, just no bake sale or food items, as the church will be selling them.

Swiss Steak Dinner

A Swiss Steak dinner will be held at the First Church of God Family Activity Center, 426 West Broad Street, Newton Falls, Ohio, by the Missions Board, on Oct. 20th, from 4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.  The cost is $8.00 for adults, $5.00 children 5 yrs-12 yrs., 4 and under, free.  The menu will be, Swiss steak, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans, coleslaw, desserts and beverage.
Spaghetti Dinner

Gospel Music Concert

Gospel Music Concert–Windham UMC & Nelson UMC. Pastor Dave Ducommon is a member of the Indiana Gospel Music Association and has been the state organization’s vice president since 2003.  He has received numerous awards and will be sharing his music and faith on Oct 21st at 10am during the Windham UMC worship.  He will then provide a concert that evening at 6pm in Nelson Twp. at the Nelson UMC.  Pastor Dave is excited about coming and sharing his music, meeting old friends and making new ones.

Look, Lunch and Listen Features Nature Photography

Join us on, Oct. 24 for a wonderful photographic journey through the seasons in Northeast Ohio with nature photographer Bruce Mack.  Mack is a well-known local photographer and member of the Cleveland Metroparks Photography Club. Mack not only shares his wonderful photos but also teaches others through local park programs on the finer points of taking photos of nature subjects, especially flowers. Programs begin at Noon in the Eykyn Room. Bring your lunch; coffee will be provided. All welcome. Burton Wetlands Hike

Explore trails and pathways of the Burton Wetlands, the largest and one of the most important wetlands of the Lake Erie watershed from 9:00-11:00am. The area provides habitat for bald eagles, river otters, sandhill cranes, and a host of other wildlife. Glacial lakes, bogs, swamp forests, marshland and the old and new Cuyahoga River are all part of this fascinating complex. We will explore several segments of this important wetland complex, including the riparian areas along the Cuyahoga River, upland forests, and a glacial bog lake. Haunted Train Ride

Cuyahoga Valley Haunted Train Ride Climb aboard if you dare for a haunted adventure riding the rails of Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad on, Oct. 27! Learn about the history and haunts of the Cuyahoga Valley. We will stop at several haunted locations so participants can take pictures and make recordings (EVP’s) of ghostly voices from the past. Stuffed Pork Chop Dinner

There will be a stuffed pork chop dinner at the Braceville United Methodist Church off of St.Rt. 82 in the center of Braceville. The dinner begins at 4pm and will serve until 6:30 unless food runs out. The dinner includes mashed potatoes, green beans, corn, coleslaw, applesauce, homemade desserts, bread , coffee, tea or punch. The cost is $9 for adults and $3.50 for kids. Takeouts are available. We will also have a bake sale and craft table.

“Young at Art” Exhibition

Newton Falls Cake Walk

Kiwanis Club of Newton Falls wants to remind all organizations that the Newton Falls Cake Walk is Oct. 30.  Cakes are to be dropped off at 16 West Broad Street, two doors east of Covered Bridge Inn, beginning at 8 a.m.  Each club will be registered for the number of cakes donated.  Proceeds from the cake walk will be donated back to the clubs depending on the number of cakes given. There will be a Halloween Costume Parade Contest at 7 p.m.  Kiwanis is handling prizes for the many community businesses and residents who have contributed them.  The cake walk will begin after prizes are given out.  Questions?
