Christa Lynne Mayes (nee Lavigna), of Garrettsville, OH, joined her Lord and Savior when she passed away peacefully at her home, on Sunday, April 30, 2023, at the age of 51 years young. She was born in Columbus, OH on August 15th, 1971 to Emily Jane Berndt Purcell and Michael Paul Lavigna.
She attended Saint Paschal School in Highland Heights, OH and Valley Christian Academy in Aurora, OH, before graduating from Aurora High School in 1990. Growing up in Ohio, Christa was always a hard worker, a fierce protector of her sisters, Elizabeth and Rachel, a loyal daughter, loving niece, fun-loving cousin to many, and adoring granddaughter to Dr. Michael & Iride Lavigna and Howard & Elizabeth Berndt. She held special bonds with anyone who was fortunate enough to call her a friend. Christa studied Nursing Home Administration at the University of Toledo, graduating with high marks, and worked as the Nursing Home Administrator for twenty years at the Aurora Manor, in Aurora, OH, becoming a cherished expert in the Cleveland area and beyond. At the age of 22, Christa met the love of her life, David Michael Mayes of Stow, OH. Upon spotting Dave off in the distance, Christa and Dave struck up a conversation, and it was love at first sight. They were married on November 21, 1998, then welcomed their son Cameron Michael in 2001, and son Gavin Edward in 2005. In 2015, Christa came alongside her husband, Dave, to help him with their growing and successful business, Mayes & Sons Plumbing. She enjoyed working with her family and taking care of their many customers and friends throughout the Cleveland area. David, Cameron and Gavin were Christa’s pride and joy and she devoted tirelessly to their every need and loved them with everything that she had. Christa loved and knew Jesus Christ as her Savior and professed her belief in Him.
Christa will be deeply missed by her loving husband of 25 years, David Mayes, of Garrettsville, OH; sons, Cameron and Gavin of Garrettsville, OH; mother, Emily Berndt Purcell of Chagrin Falls, OH; father, Michael Lavigna of Twinsburg, OH; sisters, Elizabeth (Eben) Dorros, of Nashville, TN, and Rachel (Brad) Bakos, of Mayfield, OH; nieces, Charlotte and Vivian Bakos, and Elle Doros; nephews, Willem and Thayer Doros, and many beloved aunts, uncles, and cousins. She will be forever in our hearts.
