Elizabeth Morisak, a Streetsboro resident and senior at Bio-Med Science Academy has earned the Girl Scout Gold Award. Elizabeth has been a girl scout for 11 years. During her time as a Girl Scout she has earned the Bronze, Silver and Gold Awards. The Gold Award is the highest honor a Girl Scout can earn. For a girl to earn the Gold Award, she must be a senior or ambassador girl scout. If she has earned her Girl Scout Silver Award, she must complete 1 leadership journey. If she has not earned the Silver Award, then she must complete 2 leadership journey’s prior to beginning her Gold Award project. The next step in the process is to attend a council Gold Award Workshop. Girls must submit their project proposals, interview with the council Gold Award Committee for approval prior to starting the project. Additional requirements include a minimum of 80 hours and sustainability.
For her Gold Award, Elizabeth created a coloring book to teach children about nutrition, good hygiene and other healthy living habits, translated it into Spanish, then took her coloring book to Guatemala, where she distributed it to the children she worked with in the medical clinics during her medical missions trip. The response from both parents and children was phenomenal.
Congratulations Elizabeth!!!
