Hiram Twp. – At a recent meeting, Trustee Steve Pancost shared an article from the Farm & Dairy with Portage County Regional Planning regarding Internet service in our area. Trustees agreed that the Covid-19 shelter-at-home mandate has highlighted the need for better Internet service in rural areas. Pancost noted that Regional Planning was able to have their monthly meeting via Zoom. In her financial report, Diane Rodhe noted in payroll updates that the Regional Income Tax for both the first and second quarter of 2020 was incorrectly withheld for three employees. Rodhe noted that the correction has been made in the software and the employees are receiving refund warrants; she noted that Regional Income Tax has received the correct amount of withheld income tax.
In other news, Pancost reported the Health Department had received a complaint about a Winchell Rd resident; that resident was allegedly receiving and burning trash at his property. There is a 40-yard dumpster sitting on the property now for cleanup. In similar news, Trustee Jack Groselle provided an exemption for one resident to bring their trash to the Township dumpster, since Kimble is not able to pick their trash up at their residence.
In other news, Trustee Groselle shared a Record Courier article regarding a Third Degree Misdemeanor issued for selling food without the proper permitting or licensing. It was noted that the business on Wheeler Rd is still under review with the Portage County Prosecutor’s Office.
In his road report, Supervisor Tom Matota shared that there was a $1,600 hydraulic repair bill for service and repair to the John Deere 410G. He noted that he is researching pricing on the RS2 liquid for this season’s chip and seal work. Lastly, Matota noted that the mini excavator is working out well; three driveway culverts have been replaced.
The next township trustee meeting will be held in person on Tuesday, July 21st at 7 pm in the Township Hall. As it is customary to have fewer than ten people in attendance at these meetings, social distancing can be managed. In the event that a larger group would like to attend, a change in venue may be required. The Trustees will continue to monitor State mandates and use www.hiramtownship.org to notify Hiram residents of changes.
