Mantua – At their last meeting, Village Council approved legislation authorizing an increase of $30 for sewer rates (Ordinance 2020-15) and an increase of $20 for water rates (Ordinance 2020-16). According to Mayor Linda Clark, the increases will generate roughly $192,000 per year, and will give the village a better chance for grants for much-needed repairs to the water and sewer valves and lines. In similar news, the village issued a reminder that residents are asked to pay bills by the 24th of each month, but noted that late fees will be waived during the corona emergency.

Brush pick up will resume the second Tuesday of May and continue through the second Tuesday of October. As a reminder, all brush is to be placed at the curb with the cut ends facing the street; branches over 8 feet in length or 4 inches in diameter or thorny bushes will not be picked up. Please note that service crews will spend no more then 20 minutes at each address.

In other news, a few village residents are needed to fill open seats on several committees. The Cemetery Committee has one opening, as does the Records Retention Committee. There are three open seats on the Historic Landmark Committee, and applicants for the Landmark Committee do not need to be village residents. Anyone interested in any of these opportunities is asked to contact Mayor Clark at (330) 274-8776 ext. 155. In addition, the Village of Mantua Police Department is seeking part-time dispatchers; visit mantuavillage.com for full details.

Due to the coronavirus health crisis, the Village of Mantua will be conducting all regular committee and council meetings via video conferencing and live video streaming on Mantua’s YouTube Live Stream page until further notice.
