The Experimental Aircraft Association Chapter 5, based at the Geauga County Airport in Middlefield, is proud to announce that four students, who attended the Summer Youth Aviation Camp last summer, have been selected to go on to the next level and attend the EAA Air Academy Camps in Oshkosh, Wisconsin this summer.
The four students are: Luke Shipman from North Bloomfield (a sixth grader at Maplewood Elementary School), Bridget Bellett from Chesterland (an eighth grader at West Geauga Middle School), Wesly Wilkes from Montville (a sophomore at Berkshire High School) and Jeremy Byler from Bristolville (a senior at Bristol High School). Luke will attend the Young Eagles Air Academy Camp June, Bridget & Wesly will attend the Basic Air Academy Camp June and Jeremy is on the waitlist for the Advanced Air Academy Camp in July.
Camp participants will explore aviation through technical and learning classrooms as well as hands-on experiences with knowledgeable instructors and mentors. They will gain life skills that will apply to everyday life and discover the unlimited opportunities a career in aviation presents.
The EAA Chapter 5 is very active and provides Pancake Breakfasts for the communities of Middlefield and Willoughby, Young Eagles rides for children ages 8-17, Flying Start program for adults, scholarships for students who want to become a pilot, IMC/VMC Club discussions for pilots, Program meetings with informational topics & FAA Wings credits. and a space in Hangar 3 where aviation enthusiasts are there to EDUCATE – BUILD – FLY!
