Garrettsville – This year VP Realty hosted ‘Light Up Garrettsville’ which was an opportunity for local residents to decorate their property for the holidays and share with the community. By being part of the contest, the homes were listed on a map that was provided online and at local venues for residents and visitors to explore the town of Garrettsville and see the awesome holiday displays. The onlookers were then asked to vote for their favorite home. This year’s contest got a great response with 168 votes and the winner was 7975 Vanderslice Drive.
We went to Rachel and Dave’s house to give them their prize pack of gift cards from donating local businesses and find out some of the motivation behind their decorating. Rachel has been decorating for over twenty years and when she married Dave he joined in on her enthusiasm and love for Christmas. The couple has gotten the majority of their decorations during ‘after Christmas sales’ or from thrift shops. Dave has also handmade many of the decorations, such as the beautiful arches which go over their driveway, a surprise he made for Rachel when she was having a bad day. It has even become a tradition for them to receive decorations as gifts for holidays and birthdays. Neighbors seem to enjoy living next door to this festive family and have also gotten into the holiday spirit, asking the Grabowski’s for decorating advice and even using some of their decorations for their own yards. When we asked Rachel if she noticed a lot of people stopping to look at their decorations she said “almost as many as on trash pickup day”.
