Operation Spruce up Garrettsville

1834

Garrettsville – As we begin Spring and look forward to Summer we should all take a good look at our village and see what we can do to make our village inviting to everyone.

On May 5th, starting at noon till 5:00pm Councilperson Deb Wordell has organized a clean up day in the village. The areas that will be concentrated on will be the village entrances, The Boardwalk and Main Street. Contact Deb at 440-223-2146 for information on how you can help — your volunteer help will be much appreciated!
The village has just purchased a refurbished street sweeper to replace the 36 year old street sweeper that has been out of service for a few years.

May 6th will be the first curbside limb and branch pickup. This will continue through fall on the first Monday of each month.

On May 11th there will be a dumpster at the Street Department Maintenance Building for collection of tires for village residents.

On May 23rd will be our annual curbside Village Spring Cleanup. Please, no paint or tires will be picked up.

Enough about cleanup. Lets talk about some of the dates to remember, like the Annual Community Yard Sale, which will be on May17th -19th.

The first Car Cruise will be May 25th on Main St with a new band for us, called The WIXY 1260 Band. They are a well-known band all around NE Ohio. Bring your lawn chair and your classic car and enjoy the entertainment.

On Monday, May 27th our annual observance of Memorial Day will begin at 9:00 am at the Veterans’ Memorial on Maple Ave. At approximately 9:30 am a parade will step off to Main Street, continuing to Park Cemetery for a second Memorial Day service featuring speakers, placement of wreaths, a gun salute and “Taps”. Please remember what this solemn day is about; take time to honor our veterans.

June 6th will be the first Garrettsville Farmers Market of the season; these will continue every Thursday 4:00-7:00pm thru August 22nd. This was a huge success last year and we are glad to see it contnue.

Then June 28th-30th, celebrating its 15th year, is our well-known Garrettsville Summerfest Festival which brings people from all over Northeast Ohio. Come listen to music by “The Dennis Chandler Band” at the Car Cruise Night at the Dairy Queen on June 29th from 5:00-8:00pm.

On July 27th bring your chair and listen to music by “Legacy Band” at The Car Cruise Night on Main Street from 5:00-8:00pm

Then on August 10th at the GNF Fire Station, the always -famous, long- awaited-for Peach Social Car Cruise Night with music by “The Dennis Chandler Band” from 5:00-8:00pm. Come and enjoy good music, fresh peaches & ice cream and peach pie.

On September 7th we will wrap up the Summer events with the last Car Cruise Night at Sky Plaza with entertainment by “DJ Aloha Phil” from 2:00-5:00pm

Who said nothing happens in Garrettsville?

Put all these dates on your calendar and come out and enjoy all that there is to offer in our great village. And when someone says there is nothing to do for recreation, mention Sugar Bush Golf Course, The Roller Hutt Skating Rink, Sky Lane Bowling, or the just reopened Garrettsville Cinema Theater.

Thank You for all your continued support!
