Portage Senior Citizens Opportunities
Weekdays
The Portage County Senior Center, located at 705 Oakwood St., in Ravenna has many daily opportunities for local seniors to enjoy. On any given day, you can enjoy, bingo, Tai Chi, educational programs, art class, corn hole, cards & dominos with friends, and they even have a pool table. They serve lunch daily (by reservation) and are open M-F from 9-3. If you would like more information you may call them at 330-297-3456.

The Phyllis Zumkehr Portage County Clothing Center, which is located at 3377 State Route 59, Ravenna, is looking for volunteers to help with sorting, hanging and stocking clothing and helping customers. The James A. Garfield School District is taking reservations for Kindergarten registration for children that will turn age 5 before August 1, 2019. Registration will take place at the Elementary on Thursday, March 21, Friday, March 22 and Monday, March 25, 2019. Grief Support Group

Grief Group meets every Sunday at 3 pm. The meetings are held at Garrettsville United Methodist Church and last about 1 – 1 ½ hours. Everyone is welcome. For questions you can call the church at 330-527-2055.

Do you have a family member controlled by drugs or alcohol and don’t know where to turn? Families Anonymous might be the support group you need. Recovery after Suicide Loss Support Group

If you or someone you know has lost a loved one to suicide, we invite you to attend a free monthly support group to find acceptance, information, and inspiration. The support group meets the last Wednesday of each month at the Kent Free Library located at 312 W. Main Street, Kent from 6:30-8pm. Story Time at Mantua Center Christian Church

Hilltop Christian Church in Mantua will have a Spaghetti Dinner Fundraiser Friday Feb 22nd 5pm-8pm. for their mission trip to Give Kids The World in Orlando FL the first week of April. Adults are 10:00, Children under 12 are 5:00 and children under 3 are free. The dinner will be served in the fellowship hall of the church located at 4572 W. Prospect Street in Mantua. Take-out will be available. Come join us and learn about Give Kids the World Village for children with serious illness and their families.

Bluegrass at Hambden Grange

Hambden Grange will host Doghouse Entertainment’s Bluegrass Jamboree, Saturday, February 23rd, featuring Family Pride and Red Dust Mountain Boys. Doors open at 6:00 pm. Show starts at 7:00 pm. Pork Chop Dinner

On the 23rd of February there will be a stuffed pork chop dinner at the Braceville United Methodist Church off of St. Rt. 82 in the center of Braceville. The dinner begins at 4:00 and we serve until 6:30 or when the food runs out. The dinner includes mashed potatoes, green beans, corn, cole slaw, applesauce, homemade desserts, bread, coffee, tea or punch. The cost is $10.00 for adults and $4.00 for children. Take outs are available. Doors do
not open until 4:00 p.m.

Pancake & Sausage Breakfasts

Join us at the Parkman Community House (16295 Main Market – Rt. 422) for our annual Pancakes and Sausage Breakfasts Sundays in March: March 3rd – 10th – 17th – 24th from 9:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. Adults eat for $8.00; children – $4.00 (Pre-schoolers are free). Take-outs are also available. Our pancakes are served on real plates (no disposables here) and we use only real Geauga County maple syrup. Our own secret recipe is used for our sausage patties. You can even buy some sausage to take home and enjoy after our pancake breakfasts are done for the year. Gather your friends and family and join us for breakfast!

Join Portage County Master Gardener Volunteers, Pamela McDowell and Mary Lou Holly on March 16, 9am – 12pm as they discuss the garden principles and designs to help you create a beautiful and functional landscape. You’ll learn how to divide your yard into sections to develop plans that work with the strengths of your yard to optimize plant, environment, and human health. Many of the principles discussed will be based on permaculture design practices that are low maintenance once established.
