Portage Senior Citizens Opportunities
Weekdays
The Portage County Senior Center, located at 705 Oakwood St., in Ravenna has many daily opportunities for local seniors to enjoy. On any given day, you can enjoy, bingo, Tai Chi, educational programs, art class, corn hole, cards & dominos with friends, and they even have a pool table. They serve lunch daily (by reservation) and are open M-F from 9-3. If you would like more information you may call them at 330-297-3456.

The Phyllis Zumkehr Portage County Clothing Center, which is located at 3377 State Route 59, Ravenna, is looking for volunteers to help with sorting, hanging and stocking clothing and helping customers. Hours are Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6 to 8 p.m.If you are interested in volunteering, contact Veronica Williamson at 330-819-9760 or email fourwildwinds@yahoo.com.

Kindergarten Registration

The James A. Garfield School District is taking reservations for Kindergarten registration for children that will turn age 5 before August 1, 2019. Registration will take place at the Elementary on Thursday, March 21, Friday, March 22 and Monday, March 25, 2019. Grief Support Group
Sundays
Grief Group meets every Sunday at 3 pm. The meetings are held at Garrettsville United Methodist Church and last about 1 – 1 ½ hours. Everyone is welcome. For questions you can call the church at 330-527-2055.

Families Anonymous Meetings

Do you have a family member controlled by drugs or alcohol and don’t know where to turn? Families Anonymous might be the support group you need. We meet every Monday (except holidays) from 7:30 to 8:30 pm at Coleman Behavioral Services, Sue Hetrick Bldg. 3922Lovers Lane/Loomis Parkway in Ravenna. For info call Peggy 330-760-7670.

Mondays
Men on Mondays, a men’s Bible study, is held every Monday from 6:45 – 8 pm at the Cellar Door Coffee Shop in Garrettsville. Coffee and pastry will be provided at no charge.

Recovery after Suicide Loss Support Group
Last Weds of Month
If you or someone you know has lost a loved one to suicide, we invite you to attend a free monthly support group to find acceptance, information, and inspiration. The support group meets the last Wednesday of each month at the Kent Free Library located at 312 W. Main Street, Kent from 6:30-8pm. The group is sponsored by the Portage County Suicide Prevention Coalition and the Mental Health & Recovery Board of Portage County. For more information call 330.673.1756 ext 201.

Story Time at Mantua Center Christian Church

Monthly Fundraising Dinner
3rd Friday of Month
Dinners will be served at Parkman Congregational Church in the downstairs social hall on the third Friday of every month except December. Serving times 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Price is $12.00 per meal for adults, Seniors (over 65) $10.00, children (5 – 10) $6.00, 4 and under free. Carry out is available. All profits will go to the Geauga Faith Rescue Mission. Each month will feature a different menu. Cub Scout Spaghetti Dinner

Friends of Middlefield Cub Scout Pack 3141 B.S.A. will be holding a Spaghetti Dinner/Auction fundraising event on January 25th, 2019 at the Parkman Community House from 4:30 – 7:30. The purpose of this event is to raise funds to support events for the Pack for 2019 and support the work we do in our local community. Cost: Advance $8.00 Adults. Kids (5-12) $5.00 Under 5 free. Stuffed Pork Chop Dinner

On the 26th of January there will be a stuffed pork chop dinner at the Braceville United Methodist Church off of St. Rt. 82 in the center of Braceville. The dinner begins at 4:00 and we serve until 6:30 or when the food runs out. The dinner includes mashed potatoes, green beans, corn, cole slaw, applesauce, homemade desserts, bread, coffee, tea or punch. The cost is $10.00 for adults and $4.00 for children. Take outs are available.

Bluegrass at Hambden Grange

Hambden Grange will host Doghouse Entertainment’s Bluegrass Jamboree, Saturday, January 26th featuring Tug Creek and Backwoods Bluegrass. Doors open at 6:00 pm. Show starts at 7:00 pm. Food stand is available. Tickets are $10 for adults and children under 11 years are free. The Grange is located at 9778 Old State Road, Chardon.

Garrettsville UMC History of The Bells

United Methodist Church will celebrate the rich history of bells and chimes as part of church worship and service to the community. Former and present ringers will be honored. Please come if you have ever rung. The church service is at 9:45 a.m. with fellowship to follow.
Women’s Auxiliary Offering Scholarship

The Women’s Auxiliary of Mantua Knights of Columbus Council #3766 is sponsoring a $500.00 scholarship for a Catholic female that is graduating in 2019 and planning to attend either a two-or four-year college or a vocational-technical school. The Women’s Auxiliary of the Mantua Knights of Columbus #3766 is hosting a casino bus trip to Rivers Casino, Pittsburgh, PA, on Monday, February 18, 2019. Cost is $40 per person and will include $20 in free play, plus a $5.00 food voucher. The Casino recommends you have your Players Card and a photo ID with you.
