Garfield Hall of Fame 2016 Inductees..Part 2

1969

Garrettsville – The James A. Garfield Local School District will once again be honoring its own.  Graduates who have excelled in athletics, the arts, sciences, public service, national service will find a place on the Hall of Fame.  The Villager has been spotlighting the honorees prior to the induction event on April 30 at the James A. Garfield High School.  The public is invited; for reservations, contact Sheri Johnson at 330-671-0228.

Another little addition to the line-up for the 2016 James A. Garfield Hall of Fame—or not so little, if you remember the size of Ray Bohn when he was on the field.

Ray was an outdoor type; football and track were his sports of choice.  In football he was a local four-year letter-winner, twice all-league first team, twice first team all-district, honorable mention All Ohio and second team All Ohio.  In track, Ray was also a four-year letter-winner.  His focus was on the weight events.  He was a four-year regional qualifier in the discus, a three-year regional qualifier in the shot put.  He was named All Ohio in the discus and climbed to the fifth spot on the podium at the state finals in Columbus.

Following graduation from Garfield, Ray went to Indiana University of Pennsylvania, where he played football for two years.  He later moved to Fortis, where he received training in HVAC technology.  He is currently in the field of construction.  Probably still making big moves.

More on the other 2016 inductees next week.  Remember, if you wish to nominate any individual for the Hall of Fame—for accomplishment while in school or following graduation, in fields beyond athletics in any number of fields of expertise, or contributions to the district in general—obtain a nomination ballot from the high school or district office and get the information in for consideration.
