Mantua Farmer’s Market Plant and Miscellaneous Sale!

The Women’s Guild of Christ Lutheran Church will again sponsor the Mantua Farmer’s Market.  All vendor fees will be used to help pay for the new handicapped entrance to the church basement, which was built last summer.  The first sale for the season will be a Plant and Miscellaneous Sale on May 23rd from 9am – 1pm at Christ Lutheran Church, 10827 North Main Street, Mantua.   The regular season will begin on July  11th and will run to September 26th.  Same Time, Same Location.  Price is $5.00 per date for vendors.  We will offer a variety of  items –  crafts, bakery, plants, flowers, canned goods and vegetables.  Call Diane for information at 330-274-2868.

Full Moon Hike

Full Moon hike at Eagle Creek State Nature Preserve, 11027 Hopkins Rd. Garrettsville, will be May 30th from 8-10pm. Join us as the almost full “Strawberry Moon” lights our path as we explore the night sounds and activities of nature. Event is contingent upon sky conditions. Dog Fest 5K Run and Mutt Strut

The City of Aurora Parks and Recreation & Freedom Greyhound Rescue of Aurora invite individuals, families and fur-kids to put on your running shoes and join us at the Freedom Dog Fest 5K Run and Mutt Strut.   Race location: Sunny Lake Park, 885 Mennonite Rd., Aurora, OH  44202.   Cost:  $20 pre-registration; $25 day of race; $35 for both.  Registration at 7:30am.  5K run begins at 8:30am.  1.75 mile Mutt Strut begins at 9:15am. Dogs permitted on mutt strut only.  Must be leashed.  Adoptable greyhounds will cheer you along the route!  Water stops, timers, t-shirts for first 100 participants, pup packs for first 50 dogs, awards & prizes.  Refreshments to follow.

Western Square Dance

The North Bloomfield Historical Society will host a Western Style Square Dance with Line Dancing on May 30th from 7-9:30pm at the Town Hall at the corner of Rt. 45 and Rt. 87. Observatory Open To Public

Stephens Memorial Observatory of Hiram College will be open to the public on Saturday, May 30, from 9:00 to 11:00 PM. On the observing list for the night are: the Moon, star cluster M13 in Hercules, and, later, the Ring Nebula. No reservations are required and there is no admission fee for observatory public nights. Cloudy skies at the starting time cancel the event and, in that case, the observatory will not open. The Observatory is located on Wakefield Road (Rt. 82) less than a quarter of a mile west of Route 700 in Hiram. There is no parking at the Observatory. Visitors may park on permissible side streets near the Post Office, a short distance east of the observatory.

Hypertufa Planter Workshop Registration

The Portage County Gardeners’ are hosting a hypertufa planter workshop on Sat. June 6th from 10–noon.  The workshop will be held at the center at 5154 S. Prospect St. Ravenna, Ohio 44266 (Rootstown area) The fee of $20.00 made out to PCGC is to be sent by May 30th to Mary Nitzsche. Call her for her address-330-673-8877. You will need to bring a container to pat your mixture into to form your planter.  You will also need rubber gloves and a large plastic bag to line the container.  Suggestions for a container include a large plastic salad bowl, or a large plastic hanging basket pot, or a rectangular or square shaped container at least 4” deep.

Hiram Community Band Seeks Players for 4th of July Concert

The Hiram Community Band is looking for people who can play band instruments and read music, for their annual concert of patriotic, nostalgic and middlebrow pieces at 4pm on the 4th of July in the street behind Frohring Hall on the Hiram campus. Rehearsals will be June 8th, 17th and 25th from 7-9pm in Frohring Hall. You’re welcome to join even if you have to miss one of the rehearsals. Opening in all sections. Safety Town Registration

Crestwood Primary School (CPS), in conjunction with the CPS PTO is offering a Safety Town program for incoming Crestwood kindergarteners. Through the program, children will learn how to be safe at home, at school, and at play. Topics covered include Bus, Seatbelts, & Playground Safety; Stranger Awareness, Police, and Gun Safety; Fire Safety, Stop, Drop and Roll, and First Aid. The program will run from July 27-31 at CPS from 9:00 – 11:30 a.m. If you register by June 26, you will receive a reduced rate of $25 per child.
