Mother’s Day Plant Sale

Athletic Physicals for 2015-16 School Year

Yearly Plant Sale

The Portage County Master Gardeners will have their annual plant sale on May 9th from 10-2 at the PC Soil and Water office at 6980 SR 88 in Ravenna. We will be offering culinary herbs, native plants, vegetables, hanging baskets and perennials, as well as a selection of trees and shrubs. We will also have a Trash and Treasure room for browsing and purchasing.

 

Newton Falls Plant Exchange

On May 9th our annual free event will take place at the JC Pavilion on Center Street in Newton Falls from 9 am until 12 noon.  To participate, simply bring at least 6 plants to trade with other gardeners. Waterfalls and Wildflowers

Waterfalls and wildflowers hike at Sheepskin Hollow State Nature Preserve, 51766 Pancake Clarkson Rd., Negley, OH 44441, will be May 9th from 10am-noon.  Join us as we trek through the pristine sandstone gorge of the preserve, viewing wildflowers and three amazing waterfalls. No registration is required. For more information call (330)-527-5118. This is a moderately difficult hike that does not follow a trail. This hike may not be suitable for young children or visitors with mobility difficulties.

Mother’s Day Steak Fry

Mother’s Day Steak Fry presented by the Ladies Auxiliary to VFW Post 3332, at the Post home, 433 Arlington Rd. Newton Falls Ohio will be May 10th from  2-6pm. Steaks will be made to order and Mothers will receive a carnation, (while they last). Open to the public, please come celebrate the day and help raise money to support our local Veterans! David Leach Research Station.

Closed to the general public, the Leach Gardens is a research facility of the Holden Arboretum in Madison, Ohio. It is internationally famous for its development of new varieties of rhododendrons. A wide range of flowering trees and shrubs and an amazing rhododendron collection will be in full bloom. Birding should be good due to its closeness to the Lake Erie shoreline. Fee: $8 for members of the Friends of the Hiram College Field Station ($10 for non-members). Pre-registration is required as this hike is limited. The hike begins at 2:00pm. Mantua Farmer’s Market Plant and Miscellaneous Sale!

The Women’s Guild of Christ Lutheran Church will again sponsor the Mantua Farmer’s Market.  All vendor fees will be used to help pay for the new handicapped entrance to the church basement, which was built last summer.  The first sale for the season will be a Plant and Miscellaneous Sale on May 23rd from 9am – 1pm at Christ Lutheran Church, 10827 North Main Street, Mantua.   The regular season will begin on July  11th and will run to September 26th.  Same Time, Same Location.  Price is $5.00 per date for vendors.  We will offer a variety of  items –  crafts, bakery, plants, flowers, canned goods and vegetables.  Call Diane for information at 330-274-2868.

Dog Fest 5K Run and Mutt Strut

The City of Aurora Parks and Recreation & Freedom Greyhound Rescue of Aurora invite individuals, families and fur-kids to put on your running shoes and join us at the Freedom Dog Fest 5K Run and Mutt Strut.   Race location: Sunny Lake Park, 885 Mennonite Rd., Aurora, OH  44202.   Cost:  $20 pre-registration; $25 day of race; $35 for both.  Registration at 7:30am.  5K run begins at 8:30am.  1.75 mile Mutt Strut begins at 9:15am. Hiram Community Band Seeks Players for 4th of July Concert

The Hiram Community Band is looking for people who can play band instruments and read music, for their annual concert of patriotic, nostalgic and middlebrow pieces at 4pm on the 4th of July in the street behind Frohring Hall on the Hiram Campus. Rehearsals will be June 8th, 17th and 25th from 7-9pm in Frohring Hall. You’re welcome to join even if you have to miss one of the rehearsals. Opening in all sections. Bras for a Cause 5k Run/Walk

University Hospitals Seidman Cancer Center Bras for a Cause 5K run/walk will be June 20th at 9am. Race starts and finishes at Mountain Run Station. Preregistration adults $20, Students (18 & under) $15, Race Day registration (opens at 7:30) adults $25, Students $20. Safety Town Registration

Crestwood Primary School (CPS), in conjunction with the CPS PTO is offering a Safety Town program for incoming Crestwood kindergarteners. Through the program, children will learn how to be safe at home, at school, and at play. Topics covered include Bus, Seatbelts, & Playground Safety; Stranger Awareness, Police, and Gun Safety; Fire Safety, Stop, Drop and Roll, and First Aid. The program will run from July 27-31 at CPS from 9:00 – 11:30 a.m. If you register by June 26, you will receive a reduced rate of $25 per child.
