Garrettsville – The Garrettsville Chamber of Commerce held their Masquerade Scholarship Ball last Saturday night at the Sugar Bush Golf Club.  About 140 folks attended the event that raised nearly $1000 for scholarships to be awarded in the spring.
The ball had an unusual guest list. A well preserved Pharaoh and Pilgrim were in attendance along with a few other peculiar guests. The Big Bad Wolf brought his Little Red Riding Hood, a scarecrow wandered in from the field, a prisoner made a break, and a few pirates came in search of their lost booty. Queen Elizabeth graced everyone with an appearance as did Uncle Sam.  Speaking of Uncle Sam, his presence didn’t deter the mafia; they were out in full force as well as folks who chose to don their natural masks. It was an evening of fun as many of the costumed folks stayed in character.  The fun-filled evening had a costume contest, catered dinner, 50/50 raffle, dancing and more, all to raise funds for scholarships. Kathy Ricks took home the best costume award by donning a Queen Elizabeth costume; John Bennett donned a Pilgrim for second place while Mark Brady came as Pharaoh, to take third.
Special Moments Catering provided a scrumptious meal of roast beef and turkey accompanied by green beans amandine, salad, parsley potatoes and decadent desserts, served buffet–style. The band The Boys Are Back provided the music which had couples dancing the night away. A cash bar was also available.
The chamber wishes to thank the J.A Garfield High School Art Class and Libby Frato-Sweeney for carving the pumpkins for the table decorations, everyone who supported the event and the committee for a job well done!
