Portage Senior Citizens Opportunities
Weekdays
The Portage County Senior Center, located at 705 Oakwood St., in Ravenna has many daily opportunities for local seniors to enjoy. On any given day, you can enjoy, bingo, Tai Chi, educational programs, art class, corn hole, cards & dominos with friends, and they even have a pool table. They serve lunch daily (by reservation) and are open M-F from 9-3. If you would like more information you may call them at 330-297-3456.

Auburn Firedevils Craft Fair Fundraiser
Still searching for consultants and crafters for the craft show scheduled for Saturday, November 10 from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. This fundraiser for the Auburn Township Volunteer Fire Department will be held at Adams Hall, Auburn Township. The Phyllis Zumkehr Portage County Clothing Center, which is located at 3377 State Route 59, Ravenna, is looking for volunteers to help with sorting, hanging and stocking clothing and helping customers. Crafters Wanted
The Portage County Gardeners is hosting a Craft Show on Fri. Oct.12, 2018 from 4-8 p.m. and Sat. Oct 13, 2018 from 10 a.m.-3p.m. The total fee for both days is $35.00. For a contract and payment information for 8’ table and space with or without electricity, call Helena now at 330-673-0577.

Grief Support Group
Sundays
Grief Group meets every Sunday at 3 pm. The meetings are held at Garrettsville United Methodist Church and last about an 1 – 1 ½ hours. Everyone is welcome. For questions you can call the church at 330-527-2055.

Do you have a family member controlled by drugs or alcohol and don’t know where to turn? Families Anonymous might be the support group you need. Don’t face it ALONE! Polka Worship Service, Free Concert and Picnic
July 15
Come join the Chardon Polka Band as they lead a polka-style worship service at Celebration Lutheran Church, 10621 Auburn Road, Chardon on Sunday, July 15, 2018 at 9:30 a.m. Following the worship service, the Chardon Polka Band will present a free, two hour concert at the the church from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. A portion of the concert following the service will be devoted to the children in the audience. Members of the congregation will provide a free picnic lunch for those in attendance.

J.A. Garfield Historical Society Meeting

He has always been active and helpful in his community, school and church. Backyard Bible Club

First Baptist Church, Newton Falls will be offering a free outdoor Backyard Bible Club, Monday through Friday, July 16-20. This club is for children ages 4 years old through Grade 8 and will offer games, songs, Bible stories, crafts and snacks. The club will be held nightly from 6:30-8:30 PM at the Everett Greathouse Memorial Playground in the East River Gardens neighborhood of Newton Falls. Pricetown UMC Vacation Bible School

The Pricetown United Methodist Church, 4640 Pritchard-Ohltown Rd., Newton Falls, will be holding its annual Vacation Bible School, July 23 thru July 27, 2018, from 6pm to 8:30pm. Please join them for a week of fun and fellowship. This year’s theme is: “Moose on the Loose”. Youngsters (age 4 thru 12th grade) are invited to meet Jesus. Rolling River Rampage

“Rolling River Rampage” Vacation Bible School will be held at the Wayland Community Church, 6355 Wayland Road, Wayland from July 23 – 27. The adventure begins each evening at 6:00 p.m. sharp and lasts until 8:30 p.m. This year’s theme focuses on Isaiah 43:2. All children age 3 through those who have finished grade 6 are welcome. Permaculture & Sustainable Gardening

August 4th, 9am- 12pm. PERMACULTURE AND SUSTAINABLE GARDENING. Join Portage County OSU Extension Master Gardener Volunteers, Mary Lou Holly and Pamm McDowell as they discuss the principles of Permaculture design and creating a more holistic garden. They will give tips and advice for less weeding, attracting beneficial insect and animals using plant guilds to protect gardens, and rain water harvesting to reduce water needs. The program will also cover the importance of planting perennial vegetables, fruit, and flowers as part of embracing Permaculture and sustainability.
