“Avenue Q” Opens July 2nd in Aurora

Aurora – Smart, risqué and downright entertaining, “Avenue Q” opens at 8 pm Thursday, July 2 and continues through July 18 at Aurora Community Theatre, 115 E. Pioneer Trail.

Winner of the TONY “Triple Crown” for Best Musical, Best Score and Best Book, “Avenue Q” is full of heart and hummable tunes, people, puppets and politically incorrect lyrics in what the New York Times calls a “breakthrough musical” about 20-somethings trying to make it in New York City with huge dreams and tiny bank accounts.

With music and lyrics by Robert Lopez and Jeff Marx, book by Jeff Whitty, “Avenue Q” is based on an original concept by Lopez and Marx.

The laugh-out-loud musical tells the story of Princeton, a recent college grad, who moves into a shabby New York apartment all the way out on “Avenue Q”. He soon discovers that, although the residents seem nice, this is clearly not your everyday, ordinary neighborhood.

Craig Joseph directs this raucous musical that Entertainment Weekly calls “one of the funniest shows you’re ever likely to see.” Steve Parsons serves as music director and accompanist, with Renee Anthony Dee, producer and Michael Lawrence Akers, choreographer.
Filled with hilarious, sometimes bawdy humor, a delightfully catchy score, and grown-up fuzzy puppets, “Avenue Q” is similar to a beloved children’s TV show where puppets are friends, monsters are good, and life lessons are learned.

Due to adult situations and dialogue, “Avenue Q” may not be suitable for all audiences. Parental discretion is advised due to profanity and full puppet nudity. You will blush. You will laugh.

“Avenue Q” is presented with permission from Music Theatre International (MTI). Aurora Community Theatre extends special appreciation to Aurora School of Music for their generous support of “Avenue Q”.

Tickets at $16 for all adults, $11 for age 18 and under are available online, anytime, including seat selection at auroracommunitytheatre.com or by calling 330-562-1818. Group discounts can be arranged by calling the box office. Opening night tickets include a complimentary after-show gala and the opportunity to meet cast and crew.

Aurora Community Theatre is located at 115 E. Pioneer Trail, near the intersection of SR 43 and 306, at the gazebo, in the center of Aurora. ACT extends appreciation to The Denise G. & Norman E. Wells, Jr. Family Foundation for their generous underwriting of the Wells Main Stage.
