Ravenna – Help celebrate those committed to recovery from addiction by attempting to set a Guinness world record.
The Portage Area Recovery Center (PARC) is aiming to set a world record for the largest illuminated human image during a benefit event Saturday, Sept. 1, at John Tontimonia City Park in Ravenna.
Participants will attempt to create an illuminated semi-colon, which is symbolic of recovery. The event will take place from 5:30 to 10:30 p.m. at the park, which is located on Oakwood Street.
The Semi-Colon project was started in an effort to raise awareness about mental health and suicide. The semi-colon affirms that addiction isn’t what defines those in recovery, but that there is more to their story and new life.
Tickets are $25 each, which includes participation in the record attempt and a meal ticket. There will be music, children’s activities and raffles. Contact PARC for tickets at 330-474-3188. Sponsorships also are available, starting at $50.
PARC is a 23-bed residential facility in Portage County for women in recovery. The program enables participants to reestablish themselves in a sober living environment with professional and peer support until they are ready to live on their own. Nearly 100 women have been served by the program since the facility opened three years ago.
PARC is a program of Family & Community Services, Inc.
