Windham Twp. – The trustees met for their regularly scheduled meeting with all trustees in attendance. They opened with the Pledge of Allegiance and did the usual housekeeping.

The floor was opened up for guests to speak.

Windham Village Administrator Deborah Blewitt was at the meeting to ask for donations for the Octoberfest fireworks. After some discussion, the trustees decided they would donate $1000 to help defray the cost of fireworks.

Another guest Bill Isler Sr. was updating the trustees on the status of painting and getting the monument completed. Isler stated that the top of the monument is all marble with a brass eagle on the top while the base of it is local sandstone. He threw out the idea that it would be nice to have it restored to its original state. That being said, he suggested if they wanted to do that, they would need to diligently look for grants as a project that size would be expensive. Isler said all the brass plates of those who gave their lives are updated. Corrected and installed. He has some painting left to do and it will be finished.

In roads, Brian Miller reported that they had placed culverts on Gotham Road, Colton Road, did a smear on Brosius Road, Miller talked with Henry Luli, who is doing the chip and seal of the Township Green area road and village park road (village is paying for their section of road.) Luli said it will be done by the end of September. The road crew also put in a culvert on Shanks-Down Road and did some ditching out there too. They still have one culvert on Hewins Road to place. They checked on a quote for crack sealing and thought it was too high will look at another avenue before accepting the quote on the job. Also, in roads they had Lawrence Eckman take down a few trees that were dead. Miller said grit was in and drying. They are still waiting on the salt.

Rich reported that he is working with a family who wants a headstone moved over to allow another family member to be buried in the plot. Gano has been doing some back hoe work at the cemetery. They had the footer poured for the stone mix-up and had the extra concrete delivered to fire station. A complaint about a stone being moved off its foundation was received and the trustees said they had already fixed it.

A correction from last month’s story, it was reported in error that it took four hours to weed whip the cemetery when in fact, it can take up to two days to get it completed. This is one reason why they will be enforcing the rules. Moving and taking care not to damage trinkets and such on the graves is time consuming and costly.

In zoning, Joe Pinti was unable to be there but sent in his report. He wrote two permits for the month of August. He also noted that the trailer for the house that burned has been installed and will remain there until construction is completed. They have already obtained the permit for the trailer and will be getting the construction permit prior to starting. In other zoning news, after five plus years of diligently seeking funding the township was able to secure a Community Block Development Grant for the demolition of the old church on Silica Sand. This past week the church was demolished.

In the fire report Gano reported that equipment repair costs were up this month as they had several trucks with repairs.

Old Business  – Danny Burns said the generator was in they were still getting the installation complete. A discussion was held on not only putting electric outlets on the outside of the building but possibly putting in a pole with electrical accesses in case they have an event on the Green. Burns will get a price before agreeing to do it.

A question was brought up about the use of shipping containers, Gano responded that they are not allowed in the township, those that are seen have  been  grandfathered in. They asked about agricultural use of them Gano will check on it.

There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned.
