Windham Twp. – The Windham Township Trustees held their organizational meeting on January 7, 2014. All trustees and fiscal officer were present. The board welcomed Rich Gano as a new trustee, replacing Jesse Wirick. Dann Timmons was appointed chairman, with Brian Miller being appointed as vice-chairman. Dann Timmons was appointed as the trustee representative to the W.V.F.D Joint Fire District. Rich Gano was appointed to represent the township with Portage County Regional Planning Commission.
The trustees approved the repair of the big dump truck at an estimated cost of $4,000. The work is to be done by John Sedensky of Garrettsville.
The trustees granted approval to local Boy Scout Zach Lewis who was proposing a project to raise funds and replace the flagpole near the town hall as part of his Eagle Scout project. He wants to dedicate the new flagpole to the veterans who served this country. Anyone interested in making a donation to this project can contact Zach at zlewis09@hotmail.com.
Dann Timmons reported that the old street lights on the Township Green are finally scheduled to be removed this month. Ohio Edison crews will remove the wires and lights and the Trustees will be responsible for the poles.
Zoning Inspector Joe Pinti reported that the demolition project of the home on Colton Road was in the final stages and should be completed within the month. Pinti will continue to monitor the progress and will notify neighboring residents prior to demolition.
The trustees approved reimbursement of expenses for any trustees or the Zoning Inspector if they choose to attend the Ohio Township Association annual convention to be held in February in Columbus.
In other business, the Trustees promoted township employee Rusty Maiorca from part time status to full time at his current rate of pay. Todd Phillips was appointed to another 5 year term on the Zoning Board of Appeals. Joe Pinti was rehired for another year as Zoning Inspector. Other proposed plans for the year include zoning updates and restoration of some of the older headstones in the cemetery.
