Windham – The Windham Board of Education (BOE) met for their regularly scheduled meeting with two members in attendance and two via Zoom. One member was absent. BOE President Mandy Berardinelli called the meeting to order.

In the president’s report, Berardinell reported that National Honor Society (NHS) Jr/Sr. high inductions are set for April 29th at 9 am. There will be no school on May 4, 2021 due to the elections being at the school that day. The drive-thru food pantry delivery continues on Tuesdays after school. Akron Children’s Hospital will hold a Covid vaccination clinic for students 16 years and older on April 27, 2021. They will be using the Pfizer vaccination for that clinic.

In the Maplewood report, Berardinelli reported that the Maplewood Career Center is getting ready for next year, they also inducted their NHS earlier in the month and they released the plans for the renovation of the front entrance of the building.
In the superintendent’s report, Superintendent Aireane Curtis stated that they will need to replace Barbara Balchick’s position as she is retiring this year. Balchick is an intervention specialist. The job will be posted once the board approves her retirement. Graduation will be held on May 30 ,2021 at the football stadium. In the event of inclement weather, graduation will be held June 6, 2021.

Adam Hines gave the treasurers report, he stated that he will have the second 5-year forecast for the district in May. He will have adjustments from negotiations expected this summer and other changes to school funding figured into it. Hines checked with Kurtzman; he has liability insurance but isn’t bonded. He will not require any money up front and will not ask for final payment until job is completed. Hines also said, they needed to appropriate $17,745 grant monies before it can be spent.

The board approved the financial report, the appropriations for fiscal year 2021 and the Brent Kurtzman construction proposal. In Superintendent items, they approved contract modifications, the appointment of a bus aide, after school teachers, summer school teachers, after school coordinators and they accepted the retirement of Barbara Balchick. They, then amended resolution #17-2021 to approve Daniel Burns as head baseball coach at year 11, step 10 at a cost of $4,735.00.

Lastly, the board approved donations to the food pantry, PPE donations from various sources, open enrollment students, moving third grade testing to online and approve policy changes. Curtis explained that the policy changes and updates were due to government changes and updates.

The BOE meets on the third Tuesday of each month at the high School.
