Windham Library Celebrates Mid-Autumn Mooncake Festival and New Expanded Hours, Children’s Room

Windham – Join Windham Library in celebrating the branch’s recently-expanded hours including Saturday and its newly-remodeled Children’s Room by joining us for an all-ages, drop-in, Mid-Autumn Mooncake Festival on Saturday, September 10, during library hours.

Traditionally celebrated in China, the Mid-Autumn, or Mooncake, Festival, is a time for families and friends to gather and give thanks as summer turns to fall. Because this particular full moon is thought to be the brightest of the year, lanterns and mooncakes (a sweet, pressed pastry) are used to symbolize bright light and good fortune and play an important role in the evening’s festivities.

Stop by the Windham Library to tour our recently-renovated reading and study spaces and learn about this rich cultural festival. Make-and-take paper lantern crafting and origami crane folding activities will be available for the whole family, along with recipe cards and digital Mid-Autumn Festival reading lists. A limited number of mooncakes will also be available to sample on a first-come basis. All activities are free and open to children and adults of all ages. No registration is needed to attend this event and no library card is required to participate- though this is a great opportunity to register for one.

The Windham Library, a PCDL branch, is located at 9005 Wilverne Drive (inside the Renaissance Family Center) in Windham. Library hours are now Monday through Friday from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm and Saturdays from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. Call 330-326-3145 for more information on this branch’s events or other programs.
