Windham – They say it takes a village to do just about anything, but in Windham it took a village, a township, a fire district and a school system to bring the small area into the digital age. The four entities wanted a way to better communicate what was going on in the community to the public, so they pooled their funds together and purchased a digital community sign.
The community sign was erected in front of the fire station on Center Street in Windham. The four entities also got even more help by using Maplewood Career Center students to do some of the labor involved in getting the digital sign installed. Maplewood students, along with their instructors, did the electrical and masonry work which allowed the four entities to save money on the installation. The village, township, fire district and school supplied the materials and the students got some on the job training work, while giving back to their community.
The sign is up and running but there are a few rules about what can be put on the sign. It has been decided that they will not allow political messages, religious messages, and personal message on the sign. For example times and dates of government meetings will be allowed but vote for so and so will not be permitted. School news, community events and specials will run on the board.
For more information on what can be put on the board and who to contact, please talk to Gregg Isler at Windham Schools at 330 326-2711.
