Upcoming events and meetings in May & June

The Garrettsville Area Chamber of Commerce’s annual community-wide garage sale weekend is being held Friday May 17th-19th. Official sale hours are 9:00am–4:00pm each day (individual sellers will set their own hours). A sale listing will be available online and in area businesses by Thursday, May 16th. The Chamber, and Garrettsville’s police department, remind participants that there is no parking along the state routes (North Street/South Street/State Street/Windham Street); drivers are also urged to keep an eye out for pedestrians who may not be paying attention as they cross the street.

Community cleanup will be held on Thursday, May 23rd. Items being discarded should be placed on your curb no earlier than May 22nd. As a reminder: no paint, tires, oils, yard waste, etc. will be accepted. Air conditioners and refrigerators must be properly tagged showing CFC removal.

Garrettsville Area Chamber of Commerce’s will be holding its first car cruise night of the summer on May 25th from 5:00pm–8:00pm. James A. Garfield High School will be holding its 2024 graduation ceremony on Saturday, May 25th in JAG Stadium at 7:00pm.

Memorial Day services will be held on Monday, May 27th. The first service of the day will begin at 9:00am at the Veterans Memorial on Maple Avenue. The National Anthem and Taps will be performed by the JAG Marching Pride, with a parade to the Veterans Memorial at Park Cemetery following. The Park Cemetery service is slated to begin around 10:30am. Mayor Patrick encouraged council to participate by attending one or both services, and riding in the parade. The Weekly Villager will provide live-streaming from the  Maple Avenue service, and a recording of the Park Avenue service will be posted following the service (due to insufficient mobile speeds).

The Garrettsville Board of Public Affairs has changed their meeting date and time to accommodate the schedule of the incoming Village Solicitor. Beginning with the June 6th meeting, BPA meetings will be held on the first Thursday of the month at 6:00pm, preceding the monthly planning meetings at 7:00pm.

Garrettsville Village Council will hold a public hearing on Wednesday, June 12, 2024 at 7:00 pm, prior to the regular monthly Council meeting. The subject of the Public Hearing will be Ordinance 2024-11, which would enact zoning regulations regarding yard parking within the Village of Garrettsville. The proposed Ordinance is available for public inspection in the office of the Garrettsville Village Fiscal Officer.
